New pre-pro images added Hobby Master HA7431 FW 190A-3 White 10, Oblt. Wolfgang Kosse, 1./JG 5, Norway, Oct 1942. Pre-orders for this 1:48 scale model are being taken at £66.95.

Wolfgang Kosse flew the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A with the tactical number “White 10” while serving with 1./Jagdgeschwader 5 (JG 5) “Eismeer” on the Arctic Front during 1943-44. Operating from bases in occupied Norway and northern Finland, JG 5 defended German forces against Soviet air attacks and escorted Luftwaffe strike aircraft over the Barents Sea and the Murmansk region. Kosse’s Fw 190A wore the standard Luftwaffe gray camouflage of RLM 74 Gray-Green and RLM 75 Gray-Violet over RLM 76 Light Blue, supplemented by yellow Eastern Front recognition markings beneath the engine cowling and wing tips. The aircraft carried the white “10” tactical number and the unit’s distinctive Arctic theater markings, reflecting the harsh operating conditions faced by JG 5 during the defense of Germany’s northern flank.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A

Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw-190A was first flown on June 1st, 1939. This small, yet ferociously-powered aircraft was fast and maneuverable and packed a fierce armament package earning it the nickname “Butcher Bird”. The wide landing gear, excellent visibility and high-altitude paddle-bladed propeller endeared it to pilots familiar with the shortcomings of its predecessor – the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Some of the Luftwaffe’s most famous fighter aces flew the Fw 190. Many variants were produced during the war, with the most notable being the inline-engine equipped and longer-nosed 190D, known as the “Dora.”
