New images added Hobby Master HA2318 Beaufighter VIF “W/C R.C. Fumerton”, No. 406 (Lynx) Sqn. (RCAF), RAF Exeter, England 1943. This 1:72 scale model is due in stock soon and is currently sold out on pre-order.

In 1943, Royal Canadian Air Force 405 Squadron, known as the Vancouver Squadron, operated the Bristol Beaufighter Mk VIF in the night fighter role with RAF Bomber Command. Based in the United Kingdom, the squadron used the Beaufighter to intercept German bombers and intruders during night operations. Equipped with airborne radar and heavy cannon armament, the aircraft was effective in close range engagements in darkness. 405 Squadron crews flew defensive patrols and offensive intruder missions over occupied Europe, contributing to the night air defence effort before transitioning to heavy bombers later in the war.

Bristol Beaufighter Mk VIF

Designed to counter the growing threat of the Luftwaffe, the British Bristol Beaufighter-known as “Beau”-first flew on July 17th, 1939. The rugged Beaufighter had two-speed supercharged radial engines mounted well ahead of the wing leading edges. The cockpit was located in the snub nose, which gave the pilot an excellent forward view. A navigator, wireless operator and rear gunner were positioned in a rear cupola. The Beau’s premier role was as a nightfighter, but it was also used as a long-range fighter and developed into an antishipping and ground attack cannon rocket-firing fighter, torpedo plane and tactical bomber.
