Synonymous with the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire was the primary British front-line fighter throughout the war an served in every major theater of operation. During its service life of over a decade; the Spitfire went through an adventurous metamorphosis. Originally conceived as a quick ascending interceptor with focus on agility, the later development turned towards its mobility traits, introducing a new frame and engine, propelling the Spitfire past its expiration date and into the second half of the 20th century.
The Messerschmitt is a German World War II fighter aircraft designed during the early to mid-1930s. It was one of the first truly modern fighters of the era, including such features as all-metal monocoque construction, a closed canopy, and retractable landing gear. The Messerschmitt first saw operational service in the Spanish Civil War and was still in service at the dawn of the jet age at the end of World War II.
